GDC UpdateS

I have missed a few updates, so here is a summary from Forever Fantasy, and all credit goes to them!

GDC 08: Isamu Kamikokuryo’s GDC session summary

Square Enix’s Isamu Kamikokuryo had a pretty interesting session at this year’s GDC, in which he was mainly discussing the process of making art for Final Fantasy. Just before the end of the session, Isamu Kamikokuryo played an old Final Fantasy XIII trailer, but the peak of the show was right after it when he showed new concept art of the game, which according to many sources was beautiful. Square Enix personal did not allow anyone to take pictures, obviously. Here’s a snippet from Joystiq’s article:

“Concept art from the upcoming PS3 RPG was showcased, and it was absolutely stunning. We were able to see Cocoon, a giant green planet, encompassed by clouds. Green water, seemingly falls off the edge of this mysterious, enchanting planet. It’s supposedly one of the main stages of the game. We got to see another area called Pulse, which appears to be a lush jungle environment. In the horizon, one can see the world of Cocoon.

We also had a chance to see more of the incredible airships and vehicles that will be available in the game. Most intriguing are these insect-like green hovering autobikes, with nymph-like creatures riding them. They’re “the new Chocobo,” Theodore joked.”"

GDC 08: White Engine renamed to Crystal Tools

Taku Murata’s session at the GDC had some very interesting information: The White Engine, which is being used in Square Enix’s next generation PlayStation 3 title Final Fantasy XIII, has been renamed and is now called Crystal Tools. The engine is designed to work with the PlayStation 3, Xbox360 and the PC.

The interesting part was when Taku Murata said some of the engine’s features will work on the Wii, although, “it’s a secret”. Is Square Enix planning to release more titles on the Wii?

GDC 08: No comment from S-E regarding The Crystal Bearers

Ever since Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King and haven’t shown any footage of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers in recent events, including the current GDC, rumors say the game has been cancelled.

Following their session about developing for the Wii Ware, Toshiro Tsuchida and Fumiaki Shiraishi were asked what’s the current status of The Crystal Bearers. The developers didn’t have any response whatsoever, and only said “we should wait for an official press release”.
